Founded in 2003 by Prof. Baldev Singh Bali — direct disciple of Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi — Swar Kala Sangam has spent over two decades nurturing the next generation of classical musicians, dancers and artists across Gurgaon and India.
In 2003, Prof. Baldev Singh Bali — armed with decades of direct training under Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi and a deep conviction that classical music must be accessible to all — founded Swar Kala Sangam in Gurgaon. What began as a small teaching practice rooted in the Kirana Gharana tradition has grown into one of Gurgaon's most respected classical music and dance academies.
The name Swar Kala Sangam means "the confluence of musical notes and art." This is the academy's founding philosophy — that music, dance and the visual arts are not separate disciplines but expressions of a single creative spirit. Today, Swar Kala Sangam teaches Hindustani Classical Vocal, Tabla, Harmonium, Sitar, Bansuri, Kathak Dance, Piano, Guitar, Violin and Art & Painting across three Gurgaon centres and online across India and internationally.
Through two decades, one commitment has never wavered: that every student — whether a five-year-old discovering their first Bol, or an adult returning to music — deserves the same quality of authentic, personalised, lineage-grounded teaching that Prof. Bali himself received from the greatest classical vocalist India has produced.
To be India's most trusted home for authentic classical arts education — where ancient traditions are preserved with integrity and shared with joy across generations.
To nurture every student's musical, artistic and personal growth through expert teaching, authentic lineage, certified curriculum and a warm, inclusive learning community.
"Music is not learned — it is realised. The student must empty themselves completely before the Guru can fill them."
— Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen JoshiBharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi (1922–2011) was the greatest Hindustani classical vocalist of the 20th century — a living embodiment of the Kirana Gharana tradition, awarded India's highest civilian honour in 2008. His recordings are considered definitive expressions of Hindustani classical music.
Our founder Prof. Baldev Singh Bali was a direct disciple of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi — trained in his presence, shaped by his guidance, and entrusted with the responsibility of carrying his musical legacy forward. Every Raga taught at Swar Kala Sangam carries within it something of what Pt. Bhimsen Joshi passed to Prof. Bali — and what Prof. Bali now passes to 1,500+ students across Gurgaon.
Naming the academy Pt. Bhimsen Joshi Sangeet Academy is both an act of gratitude and a solemn commitment — to maintain the standards, depth and authenticity that Pt. Bhimsen Joshi embodied throughout his extraordinary life.
Pure, sustained notes, meditative Raga development and deep emotional expression — the hallmarks of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi's school.
Affiliated with India's oldest classical music examination board — est. 1926, Allahabad. National degree equivalence.
Government-recognised certifications for Kathak, Tabla and classical disciplines — equivalent to academic degrees.
Internationally recognised Piano and Guitar Grade 1–8 examinations for Western music students.
Four passionate individuals united by one belief — that authentic classical arts education should be accessible to every student in Gurgaon and beyond.
Prof. Baldev Singh Bali is the founder and guiding spirit of Swar Kala Sangam – Pt. Bhimsen Joshi Sangeet Academy. A direct disciple of Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Prof. Bali received his formation in the authentic Guru-Shishya tradition — spending years in the presence of one of India's greatest musicians, absorbing not just technique but the complete philosophy and emotional language of Kirana Gharana classical music.
An MA Music Gold Medalist and performing classical vocalist with 40+ years of stage and teaching experience, Prof. Bali established Swar Kala Sangam in 2003 with a clear mission: to create a classical arts academy in Gurgaon that would offer every student the same quality of lineage-based teaching he himself had received. With 1,500+ students trained across two decades, that mission has been deeply realised — and continues to grow. Prof. Bali continues to guide the academy's musical direction, curriculum and commitment to the Guru-Shishya tradition.

The ancient Indian tradition of direct, personalised teaching from master to student is not a metaphor here — it is how every class is conducted. Every student matters as an individual.
From the youngest beginner to the oldest adult learner, every student receives the same quality of attention, care and teaching. There are no fast-track and slow-track students. Only people at different stages of the same journey.
Authentic teaching deserves formal recognition. Our affiliations with Prayag Sangit Samiti, Pracheen Kala Kendra and Trinity College London provide nationally and internationally recognised certifications.
Learning without performing is incomplete. Regular recitals, annual concerts, competitions and examinations are central to our culture — because stage experience is what transforms students into artists.
